Ask me what’s the best Independence Day Parade in San Diego County, and I’ll say without hesitation: the one in Coronado. I’ll also admit to being prejudiced, as the Coronado parade is the only one I’ve experienced in recent years. But I can’t imagine a better hometown Fourth of July Parade anywhere. Coronado reeks of small-town American patriotism. For this holiday, legions of its gardeners plant red, white, and blue flowers; home-owners haul out their flag bunting and drape from porches that look stolen from Norman Rockwell paintings. Yesterday I spotted one prosperous looking matron wearing a neon-blue-sequined hat, and it was hardly the most eye-catching attire in evidence.
I wasn’t taking pictures of the attire because I was marching in the parade. This year marked the debut of the Canine Companions for Independence puppy precision drill team, and it was a total blast. For details, see my report on my puppy blog.
