Amazing, isn’t it, to remember that 35 years ago perhaps the top tourist attraction in San Diego was our legal nude beach? (That would be Black’s Beach in La Jolla, which San Diego voters made clothing-optional in 1974.) This reminder comes from Randy Dotinga’s nice historical recap in Voice of San Diego. Of course in 1977 chaster voters prevailed (by a 55-45 margin) and revoked the beach’s legal status. Displays of nakedness still remain a hot button, as testified to by the plans for a naked mass bike ride June 12.

Love all your interesting nuggets of San Diego’s present, past and future! As another j-school grad, I can appreciate your stellar writing and story-telling skills. How you fit the writing and running your own tour company is beyond me. Great work.
Thanks, Junvi! I’m a big fan of Diego on a Dime, too!
